U11 Sussex Junior Festival – Middleton vs. Stirlands
Friday 31st August (Away)
Result: Win by 74 runs
This was a great result against a worthy opposition and it was superb
to see Middleton perform so well with more of their U11 players on
board and the younger ones having grown in confidence.
Jack Bartholomew was captain for the day. Stirlands won the toss and
put Middleton into bat.
Sam and Marley opened the batting with a partnership of over 60 runs
which held for 8 overs before Sam was bowled and then Marley was
caught the following over.
Louis L put on an outstanding performance and scored his second half
century of the week. Fin and Fergus also made a good contribution to
the score and we achieved 184 runs all out.
Louis A and Neo opened the bowling. The first wicket came on the
second ball via a run out and Louis A went on to bowl their opening
Stirlands 3rd and 4th batsmen put on an impressive partnership of
almost 70 runs before Fergus clean bowled one and then Jack took the
other not long after he had made his half century.
All our bowlers performed well and wickets were taken by Marley, Fin,
George and Sam. Particularly impressive were our youngest players in
the bowling arena, with Arthur Kenyon getting a wicket maiden on his
bowling debut and Arthur H bowling two impressive overs and putting
the opposition under severe pressure.
Good catches were also taken by Marley and George, and Louis A was
consistently sharp in the field throughout.
A perfect end to the festival week which could not have happened
without the support of so many junior cricketers from under-8 upwards
and all the parents who have ducked and dived to get the players to
all the games. With special thanks to Alex Tracey who spent many an
evening lassooing players from all parts of Sussex to ensure the games
Man of the match – Marley Rishman for brave batting and bowling and
taking two catches.
Thanks to Gideon Sutcliffe for umpiring and Richard B for scoring.
Please spread the word over the Winter that the Middleton junior
section would love any girls or boys who are interested in cricket to
come and join us. Brian will be in touch about winter nets.
Thanks to you all for supporting the Uner-11 team – it’s been a
wonderful season with lots of optimism, talent and confidence banked
