SJCF U13 Match 3 v Pagham..match report.

Well I suppose this is what the festival matches are all about – you are never quite sure which way the match is going !

After some over night rain who ever won the toss was going to bowl first and fortunately Middleton won and put Pagham into bat. This was the right choice for after 5 overs they hadn’t score a run with some very tight bowling from George and Matt and some excellent fielding. This continued throughout their innings and slowly wickets began to fall. Pagham were never allowed to settle as the bowling prooved too much. Dom Miller finshed with 4 wickets for only 7 runs, Jay got 3, with Matt, Ben and George also contributing. Some good cathcing as well – Ted took a great one at slip.Pagham finished on 96 all out after 31 overs with only one batter scoring over 15. This left us with a target of 97 in 39 overs. An easy task or so you would think ??
This was always going to be a bowling wicket and with some very clever tactical bowling, runs again were prooving very difficult to come by. Reaching the target should not have been a problem in the amount of overs it was whether we could keep our nerve and not loose wickets. At the same time we were getting the runs we were also loosing wickets. However a couple of loose overs from Pagham allowed Middleton to score 20 runs in 3 overs which made the target ever closer. But we still didn’t make it easy for ourselves. We had 1 wicket remaining when Jake came in and we still required 11 win. Some parents couldn’t watch !! Fortunately his nerve held and in one over 3 ‘flicks’ for 4 each down to the square leg boundary we managed to reach the target after 29 overs. Well done Jake. Sam top scored with 24 and Dom, George, Matt P and Christian helped the team reach their goal. A great win and an excellent team performance so again well done all .
As this was our last home fixture I would to thank everyone who helped with bringing the food, washing up, scoring, preparing the wicket and generally helping out.  Without people volunteering to help out, matches could not happen. On a personal note thank you all for your support.
