Result: Middleton Winning Draw.
Middleton 215-3 (37 overs): James Carter 72 not out, Ben Peach 60,Jack Doe 26 not out,
Chichester 123-6: Ben Taylor 4-23, Sam Bell 2-21
Yesterday saw 2 of our players come of age with the bat when James Carter and Ben Peach both scored their maiden 50’s for the team ,sharing an 123 3rd wicket partnership at Priory Park and in the process adding some real steel to our ever strengthening depth in batting – congratulations to them both. With Jack Doe again scoring a rapid 26 not out Middleton were in a position to declare on 215-3 with 5 of their allotted overs still to play.
Another positive was the tea that followed between innings as were Ben Taylor’s bowling figures of 4-23 and Sam Bell’s 2-21 – the other near 3 hours was best forgotten for Middleton with Chichester refusing to chase any runs for over 30 overs! Try as they did Middleton used 8 bowlers to tempt, offer and even plead with the opposition to score runs but Chichester stood resolute and at 8.00pm saw the draw out.
Fortunately a post match review with Brian, Will, Jack and myself took place soon after at the Park Tavern!
Mention must go to Thomas Robinson who playing only his second game for the U14’s bowled well and was without doubt the fielder of the day – likewise to Christian Bellamy for wicket keeping in place of Jack.
A second winning draw in 2 days again shows the respect that other clubs have for our Middleton team in that in their eyes drawing with us is a result in itself however yesterday probably means that with the other teams in our league beating each other the chance of any club in our group reaching the county final is remote.
We move on and today we welcome East Preston at the Sports Club for what I’m sure will be a very different fixture as East Preston will view winning as their goal and hence allow both teams to the chance to demonstrate the wonderfully positive elements of the great game of cricket.
Thanks to Jack Taylor for scoring, mentored by Mandy, and to all the parents for their support yesterday during long periods when they could have been at home watching far more exciting things such as paint dry!
Finally with regards to the Champions League cricket day on 26th August now I have availability confirmed I will be sending out the team and details as I have them later today.
