Now is probably a good time to remind everyone how the pathway to Area and County representative squads now runs. There has been a big change this year and there is some confusion.
Ages from U9-U15.
Players are nominated by clubs in August, for assessment by the West Area Coaching Staff.
If successful,a training place offered with West Area (Warriors), training from October to December.
During this training, players are observed by county age group managers. Players can be offered the opportunity of County Assessments. These take place in January.
Following County assessments, the following cricket maybe offered at different age groups.
U9. County Development Squad or West Warrior softball or hard ball squad
U10. County squad or West Warrior softball or hard ball squad. Four area programme
U11. County Squad or West Warrior Hard ball squad. Four area programme.
u12/13. County age group or combined West/North Squad Spartans. With opportunity to progress to full county.
U14/15. County age group or combined West/North squad Spartans. With opportunity to progress to full county.
The big difference from previous years, there are no West Warrior Squads u12-15. The four area system being replaced by a two area system.
This reduces the opportunity for representative cricket in those age groups.
I am aware the West Area committee are trying to arrange some further cricket for this very important age. group.
I hope this guide makes the process clearer.
