Well Middleton U12’s fine start to the season continued with an excellent 99 run victory over Arundel last week which leaves them joint league leaders with Chichester after two games.
Middleton 147-6 (25 overs)
Arundel 48 All Out (17 overs)
Batting: Ben Taylor 23 n.o., Jack Dawling 23 n.o., Lewis Faint 24 n.o, James Carter 15, Sam Bell 13.
Bowling: Ben Taylor 2-4, Lewis Faint 2-4, Jess Young 2-8, Phoenix Ashworth 1-2, Jay Cockaday 1-5, Sam Bell 1-6.
Arundel won the toss and put Middleton into bat which soon saw runs being scored at a rate of knots. Swift knocks from Jack and Lewis saw both rapidly reach the league retirement figure of 20 and this was followed by Ben Taylor who completed his innings with a mighty 6 into the next field!
Ben Peach again looked strong at the crease only to be bowled just as he was getting into the swing of things.
James Carter making his league debut likewise impressed with the willow scoring a hard earned 15 and, ably supported by Jess (11) and Sam, Middleton recorded a substantial 147 in their allotted 25 overs for the loss of only 6 wickets.
Arundel struggled from the outset losing 3 quick wickets for the loss of only 6 runs with Sam and Jay bowling an impressive opening spell.
In true Middleton spirit this allowed us to utilise all of our bowling resources and Wow the strength in depth this team has in bowlers has to be seen to be believed. Phoenix, another debutant, bowled magnificently taking 2-1 in his spell, Jess had the Arundel batsmen in trouble as she took 2 wickets, both clean bowled, with Ben Taylor and Lewis also both taking 2 wickets a piece. Matthew and Christian likewise gave Arundel problems who could only muster 48 runs before they were dismissed.
Again this was a fine team effort and Arundel’s manager was quick to congratulate us not only on a strong performance but also in the wonderful spirit our players had played the game in.
Once again many thanks to the parents for their support and to Debbie for scoring.
