I visited the club last night and was so happy with what I saw: 50 kids running around playing cricket on a fantastically prepared ground!
It brings me so much joy to see the club thriving like this and there are many who help us get to this position, and I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart.
I will only name 2 as I feel they are the catalyst to much that happens within the section, but please be aware that there are many other volunteer coaches, captains, helpers and committee members who without, there would be no cricket section to speak of:
Brian Towner: The work he puts into to developing and organising our colts programme is simply amazing, for many years now he has worked on introducing the great game of cricket to so many youngsters. He has done this in an inclusive way, making sure that all, no matter how good or bad they are, have a chance to develop and most importantly have fun.
Pete Clark: I don’t think I have been to the club recently without seeing Pete out on the ground or rummaging around in the groundsmans shed! His enthusiasm is boundless and has produced what can only be described as a perfect cricket ground. We are lucky to have such a wonderful venue, but to get it looking as good as it does takes a lot of hard work and most of that is done by Pete. I am sure he could do with some more help, so please do ask him what you could do if you have a few hours to spare.
So if your child is loving their cricket, or you enjoy seeing such a beautiful ground, please show your appreciation to Brian and Pete, maybe buy them a pint next time you see them in the bar, they both deserve it!
