Yes it can now be confirmed – after recording a fine 28 run victory in the final game of this winter’s indoor league Middleton U12’s unbeaten record was maintained resulting in them winning the league.
Victories over Eastergate, Arundel, Bognor and Littlehampton with a team made up in the main of three 12 and three 10/11 year old (let’s not forget that 4 of these are also Western Warriors) speaks volumes for the strength in depth that we currently have within junior cricket at Middleton and this was reinforced when each opposition manager, without exception, commented to me on the ability that the team has in batting and bowling as a unit.
8 players represented the club throughout the fixtures and exceptional performances were witnessed throughout the team:
Bowling: Ben Taylor and Sam Bell led the way in the wicket taking stakes with accurate and consistent bowling performances in each game, whilst Matt Bellamy and Ollie Humphries also demonstrated the strength we have in containing teams in this form of cricket. Jay Cockaday likewise made his debut
Batting: The opening partnership of Jack Dawling and Ben Peach proved likewise to be an outstanding foundation in reaching winnable run targets, scoring in excess of 170 runs between them, whilst Lewis Faint’s consistent run scoring was key to the team’s success. Ben Taylor’s all round ability was also witnessed with the willow.
Most importantly the players will benefit again from playing in this form of cricket when they take to the square at Middleton, in what will no doubt be a barmy summer(!), especially in their fielding where we witnessed some excellent run-outs during the winter.
Once again many thanks to all the parents who supported, yes helmets will be supplied for each of you next season, and to Iain, Debbie and Richard for scoring.
Here’s looking forward to an equally successful AND ENJOYABLE summer season.
