U10 match report..softball/hadball league v Arundel.

The MCC u10 development team, played Arundel, in a hard ball pairs match, the team was Matt Bellamy, Jess Young, James Carter, Luke Kearns debut, Christian Bellamy, Phoenix Ashworth, Murray Carter and Alfie Dudley-Ward debut. All players u9 or u8, except Matt, Jess and  Luke

The league was set up to allow less experienced players to have some practice with the hard ball, before moving onto U11 full hard ball cricket, so a great opportunity to gain experience.

Arundel fielded a very strong team, containing 2 full county u10 players and players who have taken part in West Warrior training, so a good test!

Despite losing, there was much to be admired from the way  the Middleton players contributed in all 3 areas of the game.

A wicket for Alfie… bowling a county player, 2 very tight overs from Luke with a maiden over, Phoenix taking  another wicket, if you bowl straight you will take wickets at any standard of cricket!  This was backed up by spirited fielding and the wicket keeping shared by Phoenix and James.

The wides and no ball count was quite low.

Arundel 195.

Middleton, started solidly with Phoenix and Alfie, facing some quick county standard bowling, staying in line and gaining confidence, as the overs progressed the running improved.

Christian and James ran exceptionally well, showing that with positive running and calling many singles are available and also creates other scoring opportunities.  This was backed up by a variety of attacking shots, including drives and pulls.

Matthew and Luke batted well against some good bowling and found it difficult to score, the Arundel fielders hit the stumps with a number of  throws, securing some run outs.

The final pair of Jess and Murray, played with very straight bats, the county bowler,  bowled with good pace, however both players stood firm playing some nice shots and started to gain confidence in their running between wickets.

Middleton 135.

The players are all to be congratulated on a great display,  against such an experienced team who were, I believe all u10.

Playing in a match and practicing the skills has so  much benefit and far outweighs, any disappointment of losing…in fact most players are unaware of the result at this age…how refreshing?

As a reminder, Sam Bell, Ben Taylor, Jay Cockaday, Lewis Tetley Aaron Tester and Holly Hefron were all eligible to play at this standard, highlighting the depth of talent and enthusiasm that we have….

Well done to all the players and many thanks to Carmen for scoring again.

Thankyou to Arundel managers and players for another good game..
