Despite losing a couple of key players to injury and illness and fielding a team with 5 under 10’s/11’s Middleton U12’s indoor campaign for this season came to an end on Sunday with a commanding victory over Bognor.
Winning the toss Middleton put Bognor into bat and through some excellent fielding and bowling contained Bognor to a mere 25 runs off the first 6 overs. In an effort to increase their run rate Bognor’s batsmen attempted to improve their running between the wickets only to be met by some outstanding fielding by Middleton resulting in 3 run outs.
All 6 of Middleton’s bowlers did a great job in containing the opposition’s batting with Dominic Hammond, Lewis Faint, Matthew and Christian Bellamy playing an integral part in Bognor reaching a very ‘catchable’ 53 runs.
Middleton set about their task excellently from the off with Jack Dawling and Ben Peach featuring in a very methodical and patient opening partnership which saw them steer the team to victory with nearly 5 overs to spare.
Runs for Ben Peach 20 n.o. and Jack Dawling 15 n.o.
The result means that Middleton’s U12’s finished joint 2nd in the league on 9 points, level with Arundel and behind Eastergate, having won 3 of their 5 matches.
This is an excellent achievement by our young team which not only bodes well for next season’s indoor league, when the majority of the players will remain in the U12 team, but also for the forthcoming outdoor cricket season when many of the skills learnt indoor ie. sharpness in the field, running between the wickets, can be put into effect.
Once again my thanks to all the parents who supported during the winter.
Best Regards, Mark
